There is no return value.
Function putx() is streamable, that is, when stdout is redirected on the command line to a file, the characters will be written to the file.
Tab characters are padded with space characters.
There is no CR-LF character combination appended to the end of the characters displayed.
The string does not need to be NULL terminated.
